Salonwear is a family business owned by brothers Ivan Bonk and Mark Bonk. We make capes, aprons, smocks, robes and salon apparel for stylists, barbers, salon owners, suite renters and beauty schools. Every cape on this page is built to be washed after each client and keep looking good for years.
How to choose a salon cape
Start with the service. For haircuts, trims, blowouts and everyday styling, the 9010 Silkara cape gives full coverage in a light, soft fabric that hair slides off. For color, bleach, shampoo and chemical services, go bigger with the 9020 Super Cape. The extra length and width at 60" x 72" covers the client's lap, arms and the chair, and leaves room for the shampoo bowl.
If you want full waterproof protection, choose our matte black PU (polyurethane) waterproof cape. We recommend matte black PU over shiny PU: it looks more professional and does not show wear the way a shiny finish does. Our combination cape pairs a waterproof PU top with a Silkara body, for protection where drips land and comfort everywhere else.
Peachskin capes are soft, quiet and comfortable for cutting and styling. They are not meant for color or shampoo services.
Why salons choose Silkara
Silkara (also spelled Silkarah) is our own iridescent fabric. It is light and smooth, so clippings brush off instead of sticking, and it is made to stand up to bleach and daily washing. Salons that run one cape per chair often keep a stack of 9010s for cutting stations and a few 9020 Super Capes at the color bar and shampoo bowl. Buying both sizes in the same black Silkara keeps every station looking the same.
Fit
Adult capes adjust at the neck from 10" to 24", so one cape fits nearly every client. Kids capes adjust from 7" to 24".

What is the best cape for hair color and bleach?
The 9020 Super Cape (60" x 72", $30). It is the same Silkara cape as the 9010, cut larger to cover the lap, arms and chair during color, bleach, shampoo and chemical services.
What size salon cape should I buy?
50" x 60" (the 9010) is the standard size for cuts and styling. 60" x 72" (the 9020 Super Cape) is for color, chemical and shampoo services and larger clients.
Are Salonwear capes made in the USA?
About 95% of Salonwear's line is made in the USA, including the 9010 and 9020 Silkara capes. A few items are imported, including the matte black PU cape; each product page says where it is made.
Can I use a peachskin cape for color or shampoo?
No. Peachskin capes are for cutting and styling. For color or shampoo, use the 9020 Super Cape or the matte black PU waterproof cape.
Matte or shiny PU – which waterproof cape is better?
We recommend matte black PU. It looks more professional and wears better than shiny PU.
Will one cape fit all my clients?
